Detailed Description

On a visit to the quaint town of St. Augustine, Henry Flagler has a vision to build the original Disneyland. By 1888, he constructs the most opulent hotels of the day complete with a railroad to transport the guests from New York.

Graced by the Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, and the epitome of high society; they have come to experience the “Newport of the South”. For the newcomers, it was a short carriage ride from the train station to the three hotels surrounding the promenade. We start at the Moorish style Casa Monica Hotel, the only original hotel still operating as a hotel. Next we cross over to the gardens of the Alcazar Hotel (today Lightner Museum). Then we stop in the Ponce de Leon Hotel (today Flagler College) to see the magnificent Mediterranean architecture and Tiffany glass. Hear the stories of how people lived during the Gilded Age and the awakening of St. Augustine. Your guide creates an interactive tour atmosphere which is fun for everyone.
